After 9 long months of painting, staining , sanding, replaining most of the trim, decluttering (including 32 years of Road & Track), etc, etc, Brian pronounced that our Afton home of 26 years was ready to go on the market. Of course, once again he was right.... All of those months of work paid off when the first person that looked at it wrote an offer and in less than a month we were a pending sale. Now we had 2 months to reduce our personal belongings to what would fit into a 10 X 15 storage unit and on board the boat. Our kids took 90% of the furniture. That was the easy part. We filled the storage unit, had a 3 day sale, gave car load after car load to Goodwill and the recycling center and we still filled a 30 yard dumpster! On May 11th, we moved on board. Even though we weren't closing until June 1st, it was easier to finish off the house while we lived somewhere else. Everything went as scheduled -- how amazing is that!
We have been on board for about 5 weeks now and love it! Of course, we have been so busy that we haven't moved the boat out of it's slip one time. Brian is fixing and updating systems. I'm doing the general household chores and still listing and selling real estate. Even in the slip, it is great to be on board. We love the simple life that we have created. People constantly ask us what our plan is and we honestly don't have one. In September we head south. That is all of the schedule that we plan to adhere to.
